監督とプロデューサーの役割の違いは何処にあるのか？ - （講義「作品研究」前期への提出レポート）

監督とプロデューサーはともに、出演者（もしくは声優）を含めたスタッフたちの、輪の中心となる存在であると言える。この、輪が持つふたつの中心の違いとは何だろうか？当然のことながら、二つの役割があるからその間に違いがあるわけではなく、まず異なる必然があったため、異なる二つの役割が生まれたのだと考えるのが自然である。
スタッフたちの輪において、監督が「目に見える」中心であるのに対し、プロデューサーは「目に見えない」中心の役割を果たす、としたら感覚的過ぎるだろうか。あるいは、監督という中心を、輪の内側において周縁へ向かう放射状のベクトルを放つ地点として考えた場合、もうひとつのプロデューサーという中心は周縁からのちょうど反対方向のベクトルを収斂させる地点であると言えよう。監督がつかさどるところの”動脈の流れ”は準備段階を含めた映画の現場を動き出させるが、監督を含めたスタッフの輪を円環たらしめているのはプロデューサーが支配する”静脈の流れ”なのだ。このときプロデューサーは、輪をその外側から見つめる役割、言うなれば興業としての映画製作を監視する役割を担うのである。
